The Union for Secular Republic and Human Rights in Iran applauds the recent resolution submitted to the Human Rights Council by the government of Sweden. As expected, the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) like any totalitarian systems has attacked such measures when it comes to its human rights situation. This proposed resolution is in favor of Iranian people’s interest and protect their fundamental rights.
Recent harsh measure taken by the IRI against lawyer, human and women’s right defender, Nasrin Sotoudeh, speaks volume about severity of human rights issues in Iran and intentional policy of IRI officials to deny this reality.
The steps taken by the Government of Sweden shows that there are governments who commit to their responsibilities in International community and do not ignore human rights over economic gains. Sweden government has indicated the policy of some European countries that their support of keeping Iran nuclear deal with group of P5+1 does not mean to be blind on human rights violations in Iran. We hope other countries follow Sweden approach by defending basic rights of the Iranian people based on international human rights declaration and its conventions.
