Narges Mohammadi’s place is not in the prison
Ms. Narges Mohammadi, Human Rights activist and the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize winner has started a hunger strike since Monday, November 5th, in protest against the conditions of prisons and the Islamic government's mandatory hijab policy. Sepideh Qulian, Vida Rabbani and Golrokh Irai have also joined her in hunger strike.
In her note, Mrs. Mohammadi specifically mentions "Islamic Republic's policy of delaying and not treating the condition of sick prisoners and the loss of health and human life" as well as the policy of either "death" or "mandatory hijab" for Iranian women, among the reasons.
According to the diagnosis of the trusted doctor of the prisons organization, Mrs. Narges Mohammadi needs to be sent to the heart and lung center as of a week ago, but the prosecutor opposes the issuance of permission to send her to this medical center.
The Coalition for a Secular Democrat Republic in Iran "Hamgami" expresses its deep concern about the physical condition and health of Mrs. Narges Mohammadi and demands her immediate release from prison and the possibility of her treatment in a suitable medical center. We request all human rights institutions to put pressure on the Islamic Republic in this regard, so that it fulfills its obligations based on international laws. Hamgami considers the authorities of the Islamic government of Iran, especially Ali Khamenei, directly responsible for any harm to the health of Mrs. Narges Mohammadi and other political prisoners.
