WAR is not the answer!
A new round of tension between the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) and the United States of America has arisen on the international stage. A year after President Trump unilaterally pulled out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) agreement, the Islamic Republic of Iran announced it will stop some of its agreed-upon actions and gave two months’ notice to the European Union to come up with some practical solutions to save JCPOA, otherwise it plans to move forward on the plan to increase the stock of enriched by 3.65%--considered probably the higher grade of enriching raw uranium.
Although IRI claimed the new decision is in accordance with the JCPOA agreement, going forward with this decision and threating to go back to producing a high grade of nuclear fuel at the levels prior to the comprehensive nuclear agreement is in effect the end of JCPOA.
The Trump Administration has pursued a maximum pressure program on Iran by designating the IRGC as a terrorist organization, ending sanctions exemptions on Iranian oil sales, curtailing waivers on nuclear projects permitted under the JCPOA, and increasing military deployment in the Persian Gulf.
Incidents such as “sabotage attack to the four oil tankers anchored in the Fujairah port in UAE,” “targeting Saudi Arabia oil infrastructures by drone and missiles by Yemen's Houthi rebels,” and “exploding of a racket near the U.S. embassy in Baghdad” has seriously escalated the confrontation between Iran and America and its allies.
An increasing chance of accidental confrontation while both the IRI and United States has no plan and intention of war is at an all-time high and places the responsibility on both sides. We must now warn about and urge against the destructive consequences of a risky and unnecessary war.
The main victims of a potential war will be the Iranian people and its civil society; these miscalculations will hurt drastically the people of Iran, who are struggling for democracy.
The Union for Secular Republic and Human Rights in Iran is concerned about the situation and calls on the international community to push both sides to cease hostilities that could be lead to a catastrophic situation, not only for the region, but across the globe.
