Death of an Iranian Soccer fan has caused an outrage throughout the international community. Sahar Khodayari, an avid fan of the blues soccer team, Esteghlal, set herself aflame after she was arrested by the security forces because of the laws forbid women attending any sports venue alongside the men.
On Social Media she has been labeled the “Blue Girl” with hashtags of #bluegirl and #saharkhodayari
Manchester United Star, Paul Pogba, tweeted:
Masoud Shojaei, the captain of the Iran men's football team, said on Instagram that the ban is "rooted in outdated and cringe-worthy thoughts that will not be understood by future generations".
The Union for Secular Republic and Human Rights in Iran sends its condolence to her family and all the soccer fans across the world.
Sahar was a young Iranian female opposing the sexist discrimination. She lost her life for the very basic human rights that all human beings are born equal.
We ask the international community and all the soccer fans, players and clubs not allow Sahar’s death go in vain. It is our responsibility to pressure the Islamic Republic of Iran to open the sports venues to everyone. All forms of discrimination must end in Iran!
