On March 1, 2026, at the outset of the war involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, a girls’ school in Minab came under shelling, resulting in the deaths of approximately 150 students and injuries to nearly 100 others. According to the United Nations, the incident constitutes “a grave violation of international humanitarian law.”
Following several days of investigation by independent experts, preliminary findings indicate that the school was struck by a Tomahawk cruise missile, a weapon system operated by the United States Armed Forces.
The Union for Secular Republic and Human Rights in Iran vehemently condemns this attack and calls upon the United Nations to conduct a full, transparent investigation and ensure that those responsible are held accountable under international law.
History has repeatedly demonstrated that war is not a viable solution to resolving international disputes. While it is evident that the policies and actions of the Islamic Republic of Iran have contributed to escalating tensions and have brought significant hardship upon the Iranian people, this does not absolve the United States of responsibility for actions that result in civilian casualties.
Additionally indiscriminate attack to Iran’s infrastructure and refineries is of great concern to us.
Our organization reiterates its commitment to human rights, accountability, and the protection of civilians, and urges the international community to pursue justice, restraint, and peaceful solutions to the ongoing conflict.
The Iranian people are victims of the ruling regime on one side, while on the other their future is increasingly threatened by a growing environmental catastrophe.
